Genetic Testing

“A genetic test is "the analysis of human DNA, RNA, chromosomes, proteins, and certain metabolites in order to detect heritable disease-related genotypes, mutations, phenotypes, or karyotypes for clinical purposes." 7 This definition reflects the broad range of techniques that can be used in the testing process. Genetic tests also have diverse purposes, including the diagnosis of genetic disease in newborns, children, and adults; the identification of future health risks; the prediction of drug responses; and the assessment of risks to future children.” Wylie Burke, M.D., Ph.D.
